Exec Summary

Conclusions

Fourmilewater lost the final quarter at their own puckout. Two points up and looking to control where the game was played, they went long eight times and short once, abandoning a restart that had been retained twelve times from twelve across the match. The trade was retention for territory, and the territory never arrived: their long puckout dropped around 64m from the Ballygunner goal, and that is exactly where their quarter died — 32% of their touches stranded between halfway and the Ballygunner 45, their share inside the scoring third falling from 38% to 28%, six shots in the quarter and none at all after 58:59. Winning five of eight contests that far out bought nothing, because the next 25 metres were beyond them. The three they lost were worse still, handing Ballygunner the ball facing the right way with the Fourmilewater half-forward line committed upfield to a contest they hadn't won — four Ballygunner spells in that closing spell began 72–95m out and ran the length to a shot, the goal at 61:35 among them. Nor did it kill the clock: possession in the closing ten minutes split 154 seconds to 152, dead level, while eight restarts in ten minutes meant eight fresh occasions to give the ball back to a fifty-fifty. Fourmilewater tried to choose where the match would be played and succeeded — they chose the middle third, and that suited Ballygunner better in the last quarter.

Scoring Timeline

Cumulative points-equivalent, one line per team, starting from the carried score. Goals ringed.

Scores by Period

Each period of play on its own, then the match.

Scoring Runs

Uninterrupted scoring runs of or more, listed in order. Marked runs reached points or more.

Both Ends of a Run

Every attempt by both sides across an unanswered scoring run. The window runs from the other side's previous score to their next one, so it is wider than the run itself and takes in the misses before the breakthrough. The other side scores nothing inside that window — that is what unanswered means — so only their misses are shown.

Shots

Shot execution mapping. Filled disc scored, cross not.

Shot Distance by Period

Where shots were struck from, measured to the centre of the goal being attacked. Every attempt with a tapped origin, scored or not. Struck frees and 65s carry their taking spot as the origin. .

Frees

Shot at goal, put into play, or advantage played. Distance is from the taking spot to the goal being attacked.

Possession

Share of time on ball. Chains are unbroken spells; possessions are individual touches.

Rates use merged chains (adjusted for same-team free inflation) per the rule override, superseding raw-chain rates.

Puckout Retention

✓ kept, ✕ lost, dashed = contested. Struck from inside the small parallelogram; the origin tap is preserved and the line shows the strike. Kept = no turnover within plottable events. A break spell inside that window makes it a contest, settled by whoever held the ball for two possessions after — or by the shooting side if a shot came first. Final-Third Entries

First possession crossing the m line [ASSUMED pending domain review]. [OPEN] Denominators computed both raw and merged.

Turnovers

Where one side won the ball off the other and kept it long enough to go somewhere with it. Marks inside a broken-play spell are counted below instead, not here. Ends labelled, never flipped.

Broken Play

Runs where possession changed hands repeatedly in one small patch of grass in a short time — won and lost again before either side could build. Located at the middle of the taps themselves.

Possession Flow

Consecutive taps inside a chain — where the ball travelled and which way. Thickness is how often that move was made. [ASSUMED pending domain review]
